Professional Psychiatric Evaluations in Tucson

Psychiatric Evaluations
A psychiatric evaluation is essential to help identify the disorder and help you get the best treatment for your condition. A psychiatric evaluation occurs when a patient has realized that they may have a condition ranging from depression and anxiety to ongoing suicidal or homicidal thoughts or behaviors, and/or psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations, paranoia or erratic behavior that needs attention. The patient undergoes a comprehensive assessment to determine the type of disorder as well as find a proper treatment.
Anyone who has been experiencing or struggling with symptoms of a mental health condition should get a psychiatric evaluation. Sometimes, you might not notice any changes in your mood or behavior, but your friends and loved ones might have. They might request a psychiatric evaluation on your behalf in such a case.
An extensive biopsychosocial evaluation gives the provider the information to ensure that no other physical conditions are causing the symptoms that made you come in for an assessment. If you have a history of tobacco, alcohol, and/or drug use, it is essential to disclose this to your provider. Other topics such as the family history of mental health conditions are taken into consideration, as well as developmental and social history, among others.
Crisis evaluations may be needed to treat a psychotic break induced by untreated mental disorders or a heavy reliance on drugs and other illegal substances. In these situations, your provider may refer you to an acute healthcare facility to get the appropriate treatment.
*Often, the loved ones and relatives are the ones who admit patients involuntarily into hospitals; an act that can be painful, but very much needed for the patient to receive the professional help they require.
